Ankara : The Turkish security forces captured four rebels of the banned Kurdish Workers’ Party (PKK) in southeastern Turkey, a military statement said on Sunday.
The statement posted by the Turkish General Staff on its website said that the security forces captured the four PKK rebels in Ergani town of Diyarbakir on March 6.
The PKK, listed by the United States and Turkey as a terrorist group, took up arms against Turkey in 1984 with the aim of creating an ethnic homeland in southeastern Turkey. More than 30,000 people have been killed in the over-two-decade conflict.
Meanwhile, during an operation conducted in Istanbul, Turkish security forces detained three members of the “terrorist organization” Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C), who were allegedly getting prepared to wage armed and bomb attacks in the upcoming days, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported on Sunday.
In a raid to Kucukcekmece district of Istanbul, the security forces detained two DHKP-C members and a person assisting them, according to the report.
It added that numerous weapons, clips, bomb mechanisms, electronic materials used for bomb making, fake identity cards and a remote-control toy car turned into a bomb mechanism were seized during the operation.
