Gaza : Islamic Hamas movement on Sunday called for unconditional dialogue among all the factions to maintain the national interests of the Palestinian people.
Ismail al-Ashqar, a Hamas lawmaker, told reporters that Hamas has been supporting the dialogue “since the first day” that it took over Gaza Strip.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas of Fatah movement boycotted Hamas and banned any ties between his secular faction and the Islamic movement since Hamas routed his forces in last June and seized control of the Gaza Strip.
Following the Hamas’ takeover, political divisions widened between the Hamas-ruled Gaza and the Fatah-dominated West Bank.
“The internal crack is a result of the existence of two platforms, the resistance program in one hand and the peace and the compromise program on the other hand,” al-Ashqar said.
“Hamas wants to bridge the gaps between the two programs on the scene,” the lawmaker added.
In a bid to make reconciliation, the Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh released an initiative for solution.
The initiative calls on Hamas to end its control on the Gaza Strip and prepare for early legislative elections.
President Abbas accepted the initiative since it meets his conditions while Hamas did not show a clear acceptance or rejection of the plan.
As to the initiative, al-Ashqar said that “We need to study the Yemeni initiative because there was an article calling for restoring the situation back to the same form it had to be” before last June.
