Islamabad : A day after Pakistans two main political parties announced intention to form a coalition government at the center and restore sacked judges within 30 days of government formation, President Pervez Musharraf Monday held consultations with close aides and legal advisors.
The high-level meeting was attended by Attorney General Malik Muhammad Qayyum, his legal advisors including Sharif-u-Din Pirzada and other close aides, official sources told KUNA.
It was not immediately clear what was discussed in the meeting but matters related to government formation announcement, rival Nawaz Sharifs willingness to become part of the cabinet and the restoration of sacked judges, were figured to have been center of discussion.
Sources said that legal and constitution related matters of significant importance weer discussed. They said after the meeting, the Prime Minister secretariat sent the summary to the President for calling the first session of new National Assembly (NA). The NA session will be called soon, they added.
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N), led by Nawaz Sharif, Sunday announced to form coalition government at the center and reached on an agreement over cabinet and judiciary related issues.
It may be mentioned here President Musharraf suspended over 60 judges during who refused to endorse and take oath under his issued Provisional Constitution Order (PCO) during the emergency rule. Most of the suspended judges are under house-arrest since then.
PPP and PML-N have agreed to restore all sacked judges within 30 days of government formation.
The announcement came as lawyers across the country are observing black-flag week in solidarity with detained judges.
