Coimbatore: Manitha Neethi Pasarai (MNP), a Tamil Nadu-based human rights organisation, has demanded action against Rathina Sababathy, a deputy commissioner rank official who falsely implicated Muslim youths in the 2006 Coimbatore bomb case.
Soon after the Special Investigation Team (SIT) filed its report that the bomb hoax drama was conspired by Sababathy, then Intelligence Assistant Commissioner, MNP decided to take this issue to the public, so that the government can be pressed to take action against the official. He was transferred in 2006 out of Coimbatore but he again has been deployed in the district as a deputy commissioner-rank official. This has raised concern among the Coimbatore Muslims. Various Muslim organisations in Coimbatore have submitted memorandums to the senior police officers in this regard.
The police had arrested two brothers, Haroon Basha and Malik Basha from Kurichipirivu, besides three other youths, on 22nd July 2006. The first two were MNP activists. They were arrested allegedly for plotting bombing at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital.
Now that the officer has again been deployed in the same city, MNP has decided to highlight the issue. It launched a public campaign throughout the state. In Kadayanallur, MNP cadres faced many problems from local police officials. Undeterred by the pressure from the government agencies, MNP has decided to continue pressing the government to take action against the errant official.
