New Delhi : India has expressed concern over the situation in Pakistan in the wake of the twin suicide blasts that rocked Lahore Tuesday, and hoped that the new government will be able to restore normalcy soon.

“We are worried over it,” External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee told reporters when asked to comment on the twin suicide car bombings that killed over 20 people and injured many in the Pakistani city.

He expressed the hope that the “the fight against terror launched by the government would be further strengthened” and normalcy will be restored soon.

Over 500 people have been killed in Pakistan over the past one year in a spate of suicide bombings and other violence.

The blasts underscored the continuing threat of violence in Pakistan even as opposition parties that won the Feb 18 polls are in the process of forming a coalition government.

India is closely watching political developments in Pakistan and has underlined that it is ready to resume the peace process after a new government takes charge in Islamabad.
