Yangon : Locomotives imported from India for the Ministry of Rail Transportation have been handed over at the Yangon Central Railway Station here on Sunday.

General Manager R.P. Singh of RITES Ltd, which is a company under the Ministry of Rail Transportation of India, handed over documents related to the locomotives to Managing Director U Min Swe of Myanma Railways.

Minister for Rail Transportation Major General Aung Min, Chairman of Yangon City Development Committee Mayor Brigadier General Aung Thein Lin and Deputy Minister Thura U Thaung Lwin sprinkled scented water on the locomotives.

Myanma Railways had purchased 20 locomotives from RITES Ltd and have already taken delivery of the first batch of five locomotives in September last year. The 15 locomotives received sunday are the second batch.

The YDM-4 locomotives, installed with 1350 HP ALCO engines, have 30-year guaranteed medium speed engines. The locomotives are installed with fuel efficient kits.

Attached with a modern brake system, they can run at 60 mph (96 km per hour) at maximum speed and can also be used on hilly railroad sections.
