Turkish army kills 11 PKK rebels south east Turkey

By KUNA

Istanbul : The Turkish army announced Wednesday that its forces killed 11 armed elements of the PKK in armed clashes that took place south east of the country, after less than two weeks of military ground operations that were launched by Turkish troops against Kurdish rebels in northern Iraq.

The “CNN Turk” website reported that nearly 100 Turkish troops participated in the armed clashes which erupted in the province of Sernak, one of the battlefield between Turkish troops and Kurdish rebels since last Monday that resulted in the deaths of 11 of the elements of the banned organization.

The website said that the clashes erupted after a drone aircraft revealed the existence of a group of PKK rebels in the region.

These clashes come at a time when Turkey continues to strengthen its forces deployed on the Iraqi border.
