Death toll from Baghdad’s car bombing rises to 7

By Xinhua

Baghdad : The death toll from the car bomb attack in central Baghdad on Thursday rose to seven, while 20 others were wounded, an Interior Ministry source said.

“Our latest reports said that seven civilians were killed and 20 others wounded by car bombing in central Baghdad,” the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

The attack took place at about 2:00 p.m. (1100 GMT) when a booby-trapped car parking near the commercial building of al-Khaiyam in the crowded area of Bab al-Sharji detonated, the source said.

Earlier, the source put the number of casualties at one civilian killed and four others wounded.

Violence and bloodshed in Iraq have increased recently, regardless of a U.S. military announcement of 60 percent violence drop since last June.
