New Delhi : With Indians looking at international travel like never before, Finland – the land of reindeer, Santa Claus and white nights – has drawn special packages programmes to attract this growing segment.
With over 16 airports and a lot of site seeing opportunities in the country, the Finland Tourist Board (FTB) has offered attractive packages for Indian tourists in a bid to attract them during summer vacations this year.
“We have offered heavy discounts for our Indian tourists, who are willing to spend their summer vacations in our country. The total cost of a ticket per person for both sides would not be more than $950,” Taina Tornstrom, director (Indian sub-continent) of Finnair, told IANS on the sidelines of the event organized by the FTB Thursday.
FTB representatives along with the Finnish carrier Finnair have organized road shows in India to promote Finland as a tourist destination.
“We have already conducted two road shows at Mumbai and Ahmedabad. We have the third road show here today,” said Arto Asikainen, the regional manager of the FTB. These events are aimed to showcase Finland’s potential as a tourist destination.
Besides India, Japan and China, Finland is also planning to attract tourists from South Korea. “We have 1,60,000 tourists from Japan, while 100,000 tourists come from China and 50,000 from India every year,” said Ann Lind, marketing director of the FTB.
The FTB is also looking at increasing the flow of tourists from India. “We expect about 62,000 Indians in Finland this year,” said Asikainen.
