Beijing : “Cita con La Habana (Date with Havana)” by Chinese writer and painter Yu Xi was launched on Thursday at a ceremony during which friendship with Cuba and the book’s testimonial content were highlighted.

The 275-page book published by World Knowledge Publishing, boasts historic photos as well as those shot by the author, and reproductions of his watercolor paintings. It was made public at the Cuban diplomatic mission.

Cuban Ambassador to Beijing Carlos Miguel Pereira described the book as an evocation of the ever increasing friendship between both countries and an accurate retrospective of the intense years of consolidation of bilateral links.

The author had the opportunity to personally meet Fidel Castro in 2003, and the impression of their meeting was very well reflected in the description he gives of the Cuban Revolution leader, recalled Pereira.

The Chinese writer, who is also a journalist, photographer, painter, calligrapher and promoter of Chinese culture, began his contacts with the Caribbean Island nine years ago and fell in love with it.

Since my first trip I have had sweet, lasting memories. I have been to 35 countries. However, each time I go to Cuba it is as if I go back home, Yu Xi told people attending the ceremony, including Chinese officials and former diplomats.
