New Delhi : Swarovski encrusted masks teemed with outfits inspired by the shapes and forms of knights, Samurais, armours and other military attire, won accolades for Manish Arora who showcased his collection at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) here Thursday.

“Shiny, happy and crystal” is how the designer describes his collection, which was primarily based on warrior theme.

“I have tried to depict several elements through my collection – gladiator, medieval as well as futuristic warriors have been shown,” Manish said.

Manish used fabrics like silk, velvet, wool, knits, brocade and leather to create structured jackets, fitted dresses, narrow trousers and A-line skirts.

The outfits had images of Walt Disney’s iconic characters like Goofy and Mickey Mouse on garments that were a part of his fall winter collection.

“Mickey and Minnie are the Maharaja and Maharani and there are warriors- all this invoke humour in my collection,” he explained.

Tapestries and prints from the 17th century Baroque period with motifs like the lion head and eagle as well as images of the Great Wall of China infused with contemporary art were also prominent in the creations.

The colour palette included shades of black, silver, yellow and red heavily embellished with a host of traditional and modern crystal elements.

Interestingly, for his collection, Manish has joined hands with many collaborators. He said: “I have collaborated with Kelichi Tanaami, an avant garde Japanese artist, Disney, crystallized- Swarovski elements, Casadie and Fish Fry for Reebok and several others.”

Manish had shown the same collection at the Autumn-Winter 2008-09 show during the Paris Fashion Week.
