Islamabad : An Accountability Court Friday dismissed last of the seven reference cases against Asif Ali Zardari, the widower of former slain Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, opening a way for him to become next Prime Minister of the country.
The Special Accountability Court here dismissed illegal import of BMW car reference case against Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari, on Friday, his lawyer, Farooq Nail, told reporters.
He said that his bank accounts, which had been frozen, were opened. “Today the truth has prevailed,” he added.
Zardari was arrested after Benazir Bhuttos government was dismissed in 1996. The couple had been allegedly accused of massive corruption, stealing millions of dollars from the state and transferring them in secret accounts around Europe.
After spending eight-years of imprisonment, he was freed in 2004 and joined his family living in exile in Dubai.
Zardari is likely to contest by-elections and is likely to be chosen as the next Prime Minister of Pakistan.
