Vrindavan : The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Friday criticised the tirade against north Indian migrants in Maharashtra by the Shiv Sena while welcoming the Islamic seminary Darul Uloom’s stand that terrorism is against the tenets of Islam.
The RSS Friday kicked off its three-day meet here during which the RSS leaders will chalk out a strategy for the next Lok Sabha elections and also discuss the clashes between RSS and Left activists in Kerala.
Speaking at the meet, senior RSS leader Mohan Bhagwat said it was “power hungry leaders and their arrogance” that was threatening “the nation’s integrity and security. Recent incidents against our own countrymen residing in Maharashtra and the kind of language used against them are clearly indicative of this.”
“In this atmosphere of separation created by the above separatist policies, the proclamation by Dar ul Uloom of Deoband that terrorism is against the tenets of Islam, though coming a bit late, is worthy of welcome,” he said.
He also expressed concern at the “grim economic crisis”.
“We have witnessed serious turbulence in our sensex as a result of the fluctuations in the American economy. Our food security is also gradually threatened due to this lopsided development policy. There is no abatement in rising unemployment, rising inflation and suicides by farmers. Big business houses are depriving the livelihood of even vegetable vendors,” Bhagawat said.
The Sachar Committee report on the socio-economic condition of minorities and the government’s “communal budgeting” went against the “spirit of the constitution”, he said.
Around 1,500 members of the RSS, including members of the central ‘pratinidhi sabha’, are participating in the meet that concludes March 16.
Top leaders S. Sudarshan, Mohan Bhagwat, Suresh Soni, Madan Das Devi, Indresh Kumar, Man Mohan Vaidya have already held confidential discussions over the past three days and are believed to have chalked out the outline of activities and agenda for the meeting.
Vishwa Hindu Parishad leaders Ashok Singhal and Praveen Togadia have arrived at Vrindavan. Leaders of the youth and women’s wing have also joined in for the meet.
The conference has attracted a lot of attention in the town.
