Dharmasala (Himachal Pradesh) : In defiance of the Indian government’s orders, a batch of 50 Tibetans Saturday continued their march against the Communist regime in China after a two-day break.
The exiles marched from Dehra, 50 km from here, and had entered Una district by Saturday afternoon.
The police Thursday had stopped another march by Tibetans in Jwalamukhi town and had arrested 100 people.
The fresh batch of marchers also includes representatives of top five Tibetan NGOs who are spearheading a trek across India ending finally in Tibet.
On Friday, violence erupted in the centre of Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, as the Chinese government deployed paramilitary riot police to control protests initiated by Buddhist monks, witnesses said.
The protests apparently began Monday, on the 49th anniversary of a Tibetan uprising against Chinese rule that was crushed by troops. The Dalai Lama, Tibet’s highest spiritual leader, had fled to India after the uprising in 1959.
