Gujarat Congress protests hike in land record fees

Ahmedabad : Gujarat’s main opposition Congress Monday launched a protest against the hike in rates for accessing land valuation record and the registration fee for land documents.

“The protest would draw the attention of the common public toward the non-affordability of housing in cities and towns,” Ahmedabad Congress president Pankaj Shah told IANS here.

He said protests in the city were staged at the Gujarat Housing Board (GHB) office, Apna Bazaar and Saraspur crossroads in the city as part of the “Hisab Mango” (bring to account) rally that the party has chalked out for the state.

The campaign will expose truth behind the tall claims made by the Narendra Modi government on development programmes, Shah said.

The state government had in February last year hiked jantri (land valuation) rates by 50 percent. It had also imposed a five percent annual rise resulting in hike in registration fees for land registration documents.
