Noida (Uttar Pradesh) : An assistant manager of the Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) was shot dead Tuesday by two unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants outside his home in Noida.

Rakesh Kumar Anand, 49, was going to his office in his Santro car when the assailants opened fire at him at a traffic signal, barely a few metres from his Varun Apartment home in Sector 62, around 9.30 a.m.

Anand sustained two bullets injuries, in chest and abdomen, and the assailants immediately fled from the scene.

A woman, who saw the assailants opening fire, informed the security guard posted at the residential colony.

The guard informed the family and the police who rushed the victim to the Bhimrao Ambedkar District Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

The victim’s wife Reena, 44, lodged a complaint at the Sector 58 police station. Their son, who is pursuing his engineering degree course from a Bangalore college, was informed later.

“Prima facie, it seems to be a case of personal enmity since the criminals had not touched any article belonging to him in the car. They shot him dead and fled. Killing him seems to be the sole motive but the police are investigating the case from all possible angles,” said Superintendent of Police (City) R.K. Gautam.

“No arrest has been made, but teams have been fanned out to arrest the assailants. A team is also contacting senior SAIL officials to know the nature of Anand’s work,” Gautam added.
