New regime should pick up from where Musharraf left: Pranab

Washington : India’s External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee has expressed the hope that the new government in Pakistan would pick up “the thread from where President Pervez Musharraf left” and continue the peace process between the countries.

“We are hoping to renew composite dialogue with Pakistan,” he told a press conference here Tuesday at the end of his two-day visit to US.

“I myself have expressed my desire to visit Pakistan as soon as the new government is in place and we are waiting for that.”

“In any system of government, there may be change of political executive, but major policies continue unless somebody wants to have a disruption in that,” Mukherjee said when asked how New Delhi saw peace prospects under a weakened Musharraf after the installation of the new civilian government.

“I hope the new government would pick up the thread from where President Musharraf left and will continue the exercise,” he said.
