Chennai : India, who have won five of the last 10 Tests at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium here, will get an opportunity to improve their venue record when they play South Africa in the first Test against South Africa starting Wednesday.
Overall, India have won just 11 of the 28 matches played at this historical venue since the first Test in 1934. But the encouraging aspect is that the hosts have lost just one of their last 10 matches and won five. Out of the last four matches, India have won two – against Australia and the West Indies – while the latest two against Australia (in 2004) and Sri Lanka (in 2005) were drawn.
India have played the West Indies (7 Tests), England (7), Australia (6), Pakistan (4), Sri Lanka (2) and New Zealand (2) many times over at this venue, but it will be the first time the home team will clash with South Africa here.
