Delhi court vacates stay on recruiting university teachers

New Delhi : The Delhi High Court Wednesday vacated the stay on the appointment of teachers in Delhi University and two colleges after they filled up three percent seats with disabled candidates.

A division bench of Justices T.S. Thakur and Siddharth Mridul, while vacating the stay, asked the institutes to abide by the Disability Act in future too.

But the court refused to lift the ban on other Delhi University colleges that have not implemented the act as yet.

The recruitment of staff members in the Delhi University administration, Shyam Lal College and Delhi University Vocational Studies College will be on after the stay was lifted.

Some colleges submitted that despite placing advertisements in newspapers they had failed to get the adequate response from candidates.

The court asked the university registrar to prepare a list of colleges which are ready to provide three percent of vacancies to the disabled candidates and submit it by May 21.

The stay on the recruitment of the teachers in colleges was slapped a year back following a public interest petition seeking implementation of the law on quota for disabled candidates.

The court April 4, 2007 restrained the university and all its affiliated colleges, which failed to provide three percent reservation for disabled candidates, from recruiting faculty members.
