Beijing : A 19-year-old woman has confessed to attempting a terrorist attack on a passenger plane March 7, China’s ministry of public security said Thursday.
“Guzalinur Turdi boarded the plane with a camouflaged destructive device after deceiving airport security personnel. She went ahead with her terrorist sabotage activity but was foiled. She fully admitted to her crime,” the statement said.
Turdi, a Uygur ethnic woman, and her associates have been arrested.
The flight CZ6901 took off from Urumqi at 10.35 a.m. March 7, heading for Beijing, but made an emergency landing in Lanzhou, capital of neighboring Gansu province.
“The investigation showed that the incident was an organised and premeditated terrorist attack targeting the aircraft,” the statement said.
According to an earlier report, the attacker was stopped in time by the air police on broad and the plane landed in Lanzhou after the crew and air police reported the incident to the control tower.
All the passengers and crew members arrived in Beijing March 8.
