Berlin : Several thousand people on Saturday took to the streets in the north German city of Luebeck in protest at planned neo-Nazi march, news reports said.
A broad spectrum comprised of churches, trade unions, parties and organizations had called for the anti-fascist rally.
At least 30 counter-demonstrators were arrested for disorderly conduct ahead of the scheduled neo-Nazi march which was to mark the 1942 bombing of Luebeck by the British air force.
The number of German neo-Nazis has continued to rise over the past year, according to official statistics.
Around 4,400 neo-Nazis belonged to the hardcore German far-right scene last year which is 200 more than in 2006.
Neo-Nazis are also increasingly trying to infiltrate mainstream German society by joining local sports and social clubs and volunteering for neighborhood groups where they are luring disenchanted jobless teenagers.
