Berlin : An apartment complex in the south German town of Backnang, housing mainly Turkish families, was targeted in an arson attack early Saturday, the press reported.
Two young female residents of the building were transferred to a hospital for suffering from smoke poisoning.
A male inhabitant of the building managed to put out the fire, lit in a baby stroller, by using a hand-held fire extinguisher.
According to Backnang police, racists slogans were written on the walls of the apartment’s backyard.
In addition, two Nazi swastikas were also painted upside down on the walls.
The assailants are believed to have entered the 13-flat building through an unlocked back entrance.
The latest arson attack is said to be modelled on a deadly blaze which killed nine Turkish citizens in a low-rent apartment complex in the southwest German city of Ludwigshafen on February 3.
The exact cause of the devastating fire which was also started in a stroller, remains unclear to this day.
