Life term for 12 in Noida hooch tragedy

Noida (Uttar Pradesh) : A court Monday sentenced 12 people to life imprisonment for supplying illicit liquor in Uttar Pradesh, which killed 18 people in 2001.

Vikram Singh lodged a complaint with the police Oct 16, 2001 that 18 people had died after consuming illicit liquor from a shop in Nithari village.

In the complaint, Singh stated that after consuming liquor the villagers started foaming at their mouth and their vision started diminishing.

During seven years of trial, 17 witnesses and 160 evidences were produced in the court. The fast track court of Additional District Judge Mangal Prasad found the accused guilty Saturday. The court pronounced the quantum of punishment Monday.
