Afghan Rebels Hit Australians

Canberra : An Australian soldier was wounded Wednesday by rebels in the convulsive Afghanistan southern territory, confirmed spokesmen from the defense Ministry in this capital.

According to sources the soldiers was injured in an attack of Afghan rebels against military patrols from the International Security Assistance Forces (ISAF) deployed in that country.

The Australian dispatch noted the soldier’s wounds are not serious and his condition is reported as stable.

This action follows a previous one perpetrated by Afghan rebels in Oruzgan province against ISAF military convoy under NATO command that killed one Australian soldier and wounded four others.

Australian Defense Minister Joel Fitzgibbon made a brief visit to the Afghan southern province where he met his country’s unit in Tarin Kowt base.

In this context the dispatch noted that the body of the 27-year death soldier Jason Marks, member of Australia Special Forces, will be repatriated on Thursday.

Australian journalist Paul Rafael from the US Publication Smithsonian Magazine was also wounded during a shooting in Kowhai, Nagarhar Afghan region.
