Tokyo : Japanese authorities arrested another US soldier on Friday, this time for raping a 19-year old girl in northern Japan.
James Littlejohn, 22, stationed at Misawa Air Base in Aomori, is accused of sexually abusing the girl when she was returning home alone after visiting a friend.
The US soldier was reportedly drunk when he attacked the girl, according to police.
This is the latest incident of US military violence against Japanese citizens, and threatens to increase Japanese rejection of the US military presence.
Several US troops have been detained so for this year, including one for alleged sexual violence and another for homicide, besides other incidents in local communities that have intensified and forced US Ambassador Thomas Schieffer to formally apologize.
At least 50,000 US troops are deployed in Japan, most in southern Okinawa island, where 46 criminal acts were reported last year.
