Patna: Bihar’s Minister for Registry and Excise, Jamshed Ashraf, has expressed his strong resentment on the objectionable language used about Prophet Muhammad in a post-graduation final examination question at Ranchi University.
The minister described as terrorism any malicious move to tarnish the image of any religious personality because such attempts are made by anti-social elements to disrupt communal harmony and peace in the society.
Addressing a press conference in the state capital on 2nd May, he supported the peaceful agitation of the minority community over the Ranchi University issue.
Ashraf said he would urge Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to send a memorandum to the government of Jharkhand to probe into this matter at the earliest and take strong action against those found guilty.
He stressed the need of laws that would strictly prevent people from using derogatory language about religious personalities or holy books by misusing right to freedom of expression. He said publication of such derogatory remarks or cartoons must be banned. The question number 2 of Islamic History for MA final examination held on 30th March had caused furore on the university campus. The paper has been cancelled.
