Ranchi: Governor Syed Sibte Razi, who is also chancellor of universities in the state, has constituted a 5-member committee to inquire into the use of derogatory language about Prophet Muhammad in Ranchi University post-graduation exam.

The question number II of Paper XI in Islamic History for MA examination held on 30th April had led to tension across the city. Some students organizations took out a march on 1st May to demand punishment of guilty officials. The protestors were lathicharged by the police.

According to a press release from Raj Bhavan, the committee will inquire into the responsibilities and involvement of Ranchi University vice-chancellor and other officials concerned as to how the mistake happened. The committee will also recommend suggestions to make foolproof the question selection procedure. Amit Khare, principal secretary to the governor, will head the probe panel.

Meanwhile, the university has decided that the guilty teacher, reportedly hailing from a university in Uttar Pradesh, would be stripped off his duty to set questions and evaluate papers from Ranchi University. A letter has also been sent to the vice-chancellor of the concerned university in Uttar Pradesh to conduct a probe in this regard.
