Kolkata : Some houses were ransacked and a few rounds of firing took place in a political clash at Nandigram in West Bengal Sunday evening.

East Medinipur district Police Superintendent Satyashankar Panda told IANS: “About 50 houses were ransacked and at least four rounds of firing took place following a clash between supporters of the (opposition) Trinamul Congress and the (ruling) Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M).

“No one was injured in the clash. No arrests have been made so far,” he added.

According to sources at Nandigram, most of the houses targeted belonged to the members of the Bhumi Uchched Pratirodh Committee, a body fighting for land rights of farmers.
