Six Pakistani children die in Kuwait fire

Kuwait City : All six children of a Pakistani family aged between six months to eight years died of smoke inhalation after their apartment was gutted yesterday in a blaze in Hawally, Kuwait.

The dead, including four boys and two girls, were identified as Zenab (8), Shaan Ali (7), Abdulrahman (6), Abdulrahim (5), Hajaar (2) and Ibrahim (six months), the Arab Times reported quoting Major Khaleel Al-Ameer, the head of the Public Relations Department at the Kuwait Fire Service Directorate (KFSD). Major Al-Ameer said the fire department got a call at 11.55 am and that firemen reached the apartment within four minutes, even as it took the fire personnel a total of 14 minutes to put out the blaze. He noted that three of the children died of asphyxiation in the apartment while three breathed their last in the hospital.

He said the father of children, identified only as Asif, was away when the fire broke out. He added that a lot of material damage was suffered in the fire in the two bedroom apartment that is located on the second floor. Major Al-Ameer observed that as soon as the mother of the children noticed fire she rushed out of the apartment to seek help but soon the fire grew bigger thus making her re-entry into the apartment impossible.
