Former Tamil Nadu Samata chief accused of embezzlement

By IANS,

Chennai : A complaint has been registered against N.A. Kone, former Samata Party Tamil Nadu unit chief, alleging that he had cheated the party and party workers to the tune of Rs.3.5 million, a Samata Party official said Monday.

S.A. Rajashekhar, the newly appointed treasurer of Samata Party’s state unit, told IANS Monday evening that a complaint had been filed against Kone at the city police commissioner’s office and a case would be registered later.

“Kone, who has been dismissed by the party national leaders N.K. Singh and George Fernandes from the state unit’s secretary general post, has embezzled at least Rs.1 million from party funds and cheated over 18 people to the tune of Rs.2.5 million,” Shekhar alleged.

“Kone promised gullible party workers that he would get jobs in central government undertakings and collected huge sums of money. Even I had parted with Rs.200,000,” Rajashekhar alleged.

According to the complaint, Kone, who ran the party with the help of three other members of his family, is presently absconding.
