Melbourne : Tired of batsmen’s increasing dominance in cricket, lawmakers of the game are contemplating to put a check on the use of technology.
According to a report in the Herald Sun, John Stephenson, the head of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) laws committee, will this week call for the bat handles to be restricted to traditional rubber, cane and glue.
The change is likely to limit the advantage batsmen enjoy with streamlined bats, placid pitches and shorter boundaries.
In recent times, bat handles were made of graphite, titanium and carbon to reduce the weight. These handles can be 110 gram lighter, with the spare weight going into the blade, ensuring an increased bat speed, while adding power.
Two years ago, the MCC has asked bat manufacturer Kookaburra to modify a bat used by Ricky Ponting because it had graphite on the back of the blade.
