Pyongyang : The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the United States held negotiations in Pyongyang on food aid from Monday to Thursday, the official news agency KCNA reported.
“They had in-depth and good negotiations,” said the KCNA.
A U.S. food aid delegation visited the DPRK from Monday to Thursday, during which “negotiations on humanitarian food aid were held” between the DPRK and the United States, the news agency said.
It did not give details on the results of the talks.
There were reports that the United States would provide 500,000 tons of food aid to the DPRK this year, and that the U.S. delegation was in Pyongyang to discuss how to guarantee that the U.S. food could be distributed to those most in need.
The DPRK was facing food shortages due to last year’s floods. Adelegation from the World Food Programme reportedly will be in Pyongyang soon to discuss food aid to the DPRK.
