Tokyo : Chinese President Hu Jintao said here Wednesday his government’s next contact with the Dalai Lama will be made at an appropriate time.
The Chinese president, who is on a five-day visit to Japan starting Tuesday, made the statement at a joint press briefing with Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda following their official talks.
Chinese officials had met private representatives of the Dalai Lama at a closed-door meeting Sunday in southern China’s Shenzen city, breaking a deadlock after riots in Tibet.
“Our attitude toward contacts and consultation with the Dalai Lama is serious. We hope that the Dalai Lama side will take concrete actions to show its sincerity by earnestly stopping activities involving splitting the motherland, instigating violence and disrupting the Beijing Olympics so as to create conditions for next consultation,” Hu said.
“We hope the contact will yield positive results,” Hu added.
