Beirut : The mayfly calm reached during Saturday morning between loyal forces to the government and the opposition was broken, due to a confrontation that took place hours later, leaving 14 people dead and more than a thirty wounded.
During the first hours of this Saturday, western Beirut began to recover its vitality after the confrontations of the last 72 hours, that amounted to more than 30 people dead and 100 wounded until now.
The combat took place when armed men shot against a funeral courtship, LBC TV reported.
For the first time since the crisis started on Wednesday, Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Siniora appeared on TV to criticize the action of impartiality of the army and to accuse Hizbala (Party of God) for its action.
Siniora urged military command to protect Lebanese people and civilian peace, and to fulfill its duties in all regions, something undone until the moment, he affirmed in his speech.
The Head of the Executive emphasized he won’t allow Hizbala and its arms remain in the current conditions, and insisted on the disarmament of the Islamic movement of resistance, which on Friday expelled governmental allies and took the control from the regions in conflict.
On Friday night, confrontations continued in regions like Aley, in the east, Nabatieh and Sidon, both in the south, and the police reported at least five people dead.
On Saturday, several organizations summoned pacific demonstrations in the capital to demand the return to calmness and the reestablishment of order.
The decision of Lebanese Prime Minister to cancel the network of telecommunications of the Party of God and to dismiss the head of security of Beirut international airport, linked to the opposite organization, stirred up the political crisis.
In parallel, General Confederation of Lebanese Workers summoned on Wednesday a general strike, which ended in strong armed confrontations in the west areas of the capital, where there was people injured, burning of vehicles and tires.
