Three killed in sectarian violence in Pakistan

Islamabad : Three people were shot dead Saturday by unidentified gunmen in a sectarian-motivated attack in Pakistan’s North West Frontier Province, the police said.

The incident took place at 09.00 a.m. in Mukaran market in the city of Dera Ismail Khan.

According to local TV channels, a shopkeeper, one of his staff and another person were killed in the attack.

The victims were from the Shia community. The assailants fled on a motorcycle after the attack, the police said.

Security has been beefed up in the city after the incident, witnesses said.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack, Abdul Ghafoor, a local police officer, said.

Dera Ismail Khan in Pakistan’s North West Frontier Province has been marred by sectarian violence of late.
