14 injured in clashes in north Gujarat

Palanpur (Gujarat) : As many as 14 people were injured Sunday in clashes between two communities at Changwada village in north Gujarat, the police said.

Two people with serious injuries were referred to the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital while others were admitted at the civil hospital here.

According to Palanpur deputy police chief Mayur Chavda, a minor squabble over plucking mangoes by some Muslim boys in Changwada, 21 km from here, turned violent after the owners tried to stop them.

The boys belonging to nearby Tankariya village informed their parents and some three vehicles loaded with people armed with lathis and knives reached the spot.

In the ensuing clashes, 14 people from both communities were injured.

District police chief Vipul Aggarwal said a contingent of 50 police personnel was deployed in the village and the situation was now well under control.
