Palanpur (Gujarat) : The All Gujarat Jamiat Ulema at a convention held in this north Gujarat town has termed terrorism as an evil and called upon people not to associate any religion with it.
“If a person commits an act of terrorism, the entire Muslim community comes under a cloud. Suspicion leads to hatred and, if not checked, anarchy could prevail across the globe,” said a resolution passed at the anti-terrorism convention here Saturday evening.
“The forces that want to propagate insecurity by inciting tension in society are enemies of progress. Such forces in the country have to be dealt with,” it said.
Addressing the 25,000-strong gathering, Maulana Syed Arshad Madani, former president of the Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind (JUH), said: “Muslims are not terrorists albeit some terrorist are Muslims.”
A community should not be generalized for the acts of a few misguided people, he said.
He said the meet was an extension of an anti-terrorism campaign that began from Darul Uloom Deoband in February. Such conferences would be held across the country, he said.
