Chhattisgarh issues advisory as mercury touches 44 degrees

By IANS,

Raipur : Chhattisgarh issued a health advisory Monday as temperatures soared to 44 degrees celsius in many districts amid reports of heat strokes and jaundice cases surfacing in these areas.

The government has suggested various measures to prevent and deal with sun strokes. It has advised people to eat well and drink enough water before venturing out of their houses.

While asking residents to stay indoors as much as possible, it said people should cover their “face and ears” if they have to move out under the prevalent heat wave conditions.

The mercury has shot up to 44 degrees celsius in almost all the 18 districts since April 28. The meteorological department has predicted that temperatures may even touch 46-47 degrees by the month end, specially in districts like Raigarh, Raipur, Durg, Rajnandgaon and Bilaspur.

The Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Government Hospital and College here registers around 40 new cases of heat stroke and jaundice every day, officials said.

The advisory has also asked people to immediately contact doctors in case of high fever, dehydration and severe headaches as these may be symptoms of a heat stroke.
