New Delhi : An Indian American student was Monday found dead with head injuries in his rented room in north Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar area near Delhi University.
Kenan Mehra, 25, was found lying in a pool of blood in the bathroom of his second floor Hudson Lane home when police, alerted by his landlord and friends, broke open the door.
Mehra was from North Carolina and had been in the capital for about a month doing research in philosophy at Delhi University, police said.
The house, which he had hired on April 8, was bolted from inside. Police suspect that it could be a case of suicide as well. Before moving to the house, Mehra had been staying with relatives.
Police officials investigating the case say that Mehra could have died two days ago. No valuables are missing from the house.
“Mehra’s friend approached his house when they could not get in touch with him for more than 36 hours despite repeated efforts. They informed his landlord who informed us. The house was broken open and Mehra was found dead in the bathroom,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest Delhi) Manish Agrawal told IANS.
“We have his sent his body for post-mortem. Nothing can be said at this moment,” he added.
