Kuwait : A Kuwaiti health official on Thursday called for the avoidance of direct exposure to sunlight during the morning period of the elections day, due Saturday.
Director of the Health Awareness and Information Department at the Ministry of Health Dr. Ahmad Al-Shatti told KUNA that amid an atmosphere of hot summer, the exposure to sunlight for long hours may cause several serious illnesses including skin cancer and skin infections in the form of painful redness in addition to substantial damage in the eye.
He added that the frequent and direct exposure to sunlight could also cause the skin to have wrinkles and spots on the body structure and face, in addition to the exposure of the skin to manifestations of premature aging and wrinkles, especially among women.
He also urged parents not take their children with them on that day to avoid sun rays, providing that the delicate skin of children makes it more vulnerable to sun burns.
Furthermore, Dr. Al-Shatti warned of over consuming salty food supplies because they may lead to drought and called for more frequent drinking of fluids, especially water, to maintain the required balance in the proportion of mineral body salts.
The parliamentary elections will start Saturday amid expectations that the temperatures might reach up to 42 degrees Celsius on that day.
