Washington : The US Congress decided this week to suspend replacement of its strategic reserves of oil as of the second semester of 2008, explained a spokeswoman of the Department of Energy (DoE).
Megan Burnett of DoE explained that no six month contract will be definitely signed regarding supply in accordance to a resolution passed by Congress that requests a delay of replacement of the reserves until the end of the year.
The spokeswoman explained that the United States adds 70,000 barrels a day of oil for this purpose that has no appreciable effect on prices.
This measure aims to correct the high values of gasoline by placing it in the required markets, analysts pointed out.
The Senate considers that arsenals, currently adequately supplied, should not be a priority when the nation needs these supplies, affected by a strong inflation in the energy industry.
Referring to the proposal the Democrats noted that the average price of gasoline doubled during the current government surpassing the 1.46 dollars per gallon to 3.65 although prices surpassed the four-dollar mark in many parts of the country.
