New Delhi : Soon, you would be able to get railway tickets at your doorsteps by just dialing a number.
Aptly named as “Dial-a-ticket”, the soon-to-be launched service of Railways is currently on trial.
“A trial is going on experimental basis as we want to make it a fool-proof arrangement by addressing the loopholes, if any, before launching the service finally,” said a senior Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) official.
“The aim is to shorten the queue at the ticket windows. Once operational, this will be a big step towards providing tickets at door steps as value-added facilities to railway passengers across the country,” the official said.
About the mode of payment, the official said initially a caller has to make payment through cash card and later, credit card payment facilities are likely to be added.
On the date of launching the service, he said “we are trying to get a separate number closer to 139 to make it as a dedicated ‘Dial-a-ticket’ service number.
“We have already written to the Department of Telecommunication seeking a dedicated three or four digit number,” he said.
