London : Prof Nazir Ahmad Shawl, Executive Director Kashmir Centre London, has welcomed the secretarial and ministerial level meetings between the foreign secretaries and foreign ministers of India and Pakistan. In a statement, Shawl has hoped that in this dialogue the centrality of core issue of Kashmir will be acknowledged. Human rights scenario particularly the issue of recently discovered unmarked mass graves will also be part of agenda of discussion.
“We welcome this engagement but it is our considered view that this engagement could be very fruitful if Kashmiris are made an inseparable component in this process,” he said.
Shawl called upon India and Pakistan to create trust and ownership of this dialogue among the people of Jammu and Kashmir. In this context the recent meeting of Kashmiri leaders with Shah Mahmood Qureshi in Islamabad is a positive step in the right direction, he added.
Prof Shawl welcomed the assertion of Pakistan Foreign Minister that the wishes of Kashmiri people are of paramount importance. “The people of Kashmir will always welcome a break through leading to an honourable and just settlement of Kashmir dispute,” he noted.
