Cuba Accuses Spanish Daily of Serving US

By Prensa Latina,

Madrid : The Cuban embassy to Spain accused the ABC daily on Wednesday of serving the United States in its maneuvers against Cuba.

In a pres release published in this capital, the Cuban diplomatic mission referred to an article in that newspaper, signed by US Ambassador to Madrid Eduardo Aguirre.

The Cuban text said the ABC article release coincides with new and documented denounces that Cuba has presented against the interfering proceedings by the US Interest Section head to Havana.

It also said the note by Washington’s representative is a call to join the stratagem planned for Wednesday by US President George W. Bush, with the pretext of denouncing supposed human rights violations in Cuba.

In this respect, it warned that the ABC article refers to several UN instruments, regarding human rights, and said “nobody should be tortured, punished, or subject to cruel, inhuman, or humiliating treatment.”

The Cuban embassy warned that this statement shows how far “the typical cynicism of a representative of a government that has a thick file of crimes, human rights violations, and crimes against humanity in different parts of the world,” can go.

It also said recalling the evidence shown by the cases of Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo prisons, which are not isolated episodes, as it is confirmed by the US government law that authorizes the use of tortures, is enough.

The communique states that the US ambassador disrespects the Spanish government and people, using his post to promote actions in support of the empire’s destabilizing efforts, in line with its hopes to defeat the Cuban Revolution.

Finally, it recalled that Cuba would celebrate the 50th anniversary of its Revolution, striving to improve, increase common welfare, and maintain dignity and solidarity principles, with which it has made people of the world, including the United States and Spain, respect it.
