Chandigarh : The Punjab government Thursday gave its approval to commercial and industrial projects worth Rs.200 billion, including an eight-lane expressway, a luxury train and an IT tower that would give a major filip to the development of the region.
The projects cleared at a meeting of the Punjab Infra-structure Development Board (PIDB) include an eight-lane expressway connecting Pathankot town in north Punjab with Rajasthan’s sufi shrine city of Ajmer via Jalandhar, a luxury train encircling Punjab’s religious circuit and eight-lane ring roads around major cities of Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Amritsar.
The meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, also approved an expressway connecting Mohali international airport with Amritsar, radio cabs in all major towns, an information technology (IT) tower in Mohali near Chandigarh and modern bus stands at several places, a Punjab government spokesman said here.
