Coach declines to release Mohun Bagan players for Bayern match

New Delhi : Chief football coach Bob Houghton has turned down Mohun Bagan’s request to release their players from the national camp for their exhibition match against German giants Bayern Munich Tuesday.

According to sources in the All India Football Federation (AIFF), Mohun Bagan approached Houghton for releasing three of its key players – Bhaichung Bhutia, Deepak Mondal and N.S Manju for the tie, which would also be German goalkeeper Oliver Kahn’s farewell match.

Mohun Bagan’s request seemed to have infuriated Houghton, who termed the request as stupidity.

“I am not interested in that game,” Houghton told IANS Friday.

In fact, India is also playing an international friendly against Chinese Taipei on the same day as a part of its preparation for the SAFF Cup and the AFC Challenge Cup.
