Yingxiu (China) : The official toll in China’s devastating earthquake has risen to 60,000.
Premier Wen Jiabao said this during a meeting with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon Saturday in Yingxiu town in Sichuan province.
Nearly 30,000 people remained missing and around 300,000 people were injured, Wen told Ban Ki-moon.
The quake, measuring 8 on the Richter scale, jolted Sichuan province May 12, killing and wounding thousands in the aftermath.
Sichuan was the worst hit. Casualties were also reported from adjoining provinces.
