Yangon, Myanmar : The First Saudi cargo plane carrying more than 73 tons of foodstuffs, tents, medicines and blankets arrived in Yangon to help mitigate sufferings of thousands of Burmese who have lost their families and homes due to a massive cyclone that hit Myanmar.
The plane touched down at 9 o’clock (local time). The relief consignment of the cargo plane was received by Saudi Ambassador to Union of Myanmar Turki Nazi Al-Ali and Burmese officer responsible for Assistance Committees and a number of officials.
In a statement to Saudi Press Agency (SPA), ambassador Turki Al-Ali said the directives of The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdul-Asia stated departure of five Saudi relief planes to the Union of Myanmar on an urgent basis to assist the people of Myanmar following huge human and material losses caused by the hurricane and floods which devastated large parts of the islands and left about 100,000 dead and displaced thousands of people.
He emphasized that the directives Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques reflect the fact that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is seeking to achieve its mission to help the victims of weather conditions and natural phenomena like earthquakes and the like.
Four more relief planes will arrive here in the next few days.
He said Myanmar’s appreciation and praise for this Saudi relief assistance stemmed from the noble and humanitarian gesture of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the people of the Kingdom who are always in front to help the afflicted ones around the world.
For his part, Myanmar officials have expressed great thanks and appreciation on behalf of the Government and people of Myanmar to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the people of the Kingdom for this urgent assistance.
