Kiev : Residents of Ukraine’s capital are voting in a poll on Sunday to elect a mayor and city council, with 70 candidates running for the mayor’s post.
On March 16 the Ukrainian Parliament voted to hold early elections for the City Hall of Kiev’s mayor upon request from the government, which accused current Mayor Leonid Chernovetskiy and his administration of corruption.
Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and former premier Viktor Yanukovych, Ukraine’s main rival politicians, are represented by one or several candidates in the mayoral elections.
