US wants Pakistani coalition government to remain intact

Islamabad : The US wants coalition government of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) to remain intact after the two parties developed differences over Musharraf deposed Judges with PML-N pulling out his men from the federal cabinet in protest.

The visiting three-member US congressional delegation headed by Adam Schiff, arrived here Sunday night, Monday held extensive meetings with President Pervez Musharraf, PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, and PML-N members as well as other government officials.

During their meeting with the PML-N leaders, official sources told KUNA, the US delegation urged the party members to keep up the partnership at the center with PPP.

Sources said other issues related to PML-N differences with Musharraf, peace deal with Taliban and matters related to bilateral interests came under discussion.

After meeting with PML-N leaders, the US delegation held long meeting with Asif Ali Zardari and exchanged views on several issues and held follow-up discussion about the coalition government.

Asif assured the US delegation of Pakistans full support in the war against terrorism. Earlier, the US senators met with National Assembly Speaker Dr Fahmida Mirza. Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with the United States and both the countries share views and perceptions on regional and global issues, a press statement quoted the Speaker as saying in the meeting.

The Speaker said the democracy in Pakistan was restored after prolonged struggle and sacrifices and it needed to be strengthened through the support of democratic countries like USA, said the statement.
